A death in the parish affects us all - the immediate friends and family, as well as the entire Christian community. Our presence at the visitation and/or Mass offers concrete support to the grieving. The Masses, flowers, and memorial gifts speak clearly of our concern. Yet, there is more we can do.
Many times the grieving families are looking for a place to greet family and friends after the funeral liturgy. Martha Ministry can help. There are two aspects of Martha Ministry: to be available in church at the time of the funeral to greet mourners; and to coordinate a reception after the funeral according to the needs and wishes of the family.
This is a positive sign of Christian growth in our community and we gratefully acknowledge those who participate in this bereavement ministry.
Martha Ministry offers the following types of receptions at the Parish Center at St. Thomas following the funeral liturgy:
- Complimentary: This type of reception offers cookies, kuchens, coffee, and juice provided entirely by Martha Ministry. We will setup, cleanup, and provide all necessary supplies.
- Meat trays with rolls or sub tray: With this type of reception, the family is responsible for the purchase and delivery of the trays to the Parish Center on the day of the funeral service. Martha Ministry will provide cookies, kuchens, coffee, and juice. We will setup, cleanup, and provide all necessary supplies. We respectfully ask that no salads be requested.
- Catered: A catered reception is also an option. However, with this type of reception, the family is entirely responsible for all of the arrangements including purchase, setup, delivery, and cleanup. The family and/or caterer are responsible for providing all supplies.
For Information/Arrangements Contact: The Parish Center at 342-2323
Martha Ministry is a non-profit organization comprised of St. Thomas parishioners who generously volunteer their time. Donations to Martha Ministry should be directed to the "St. Thomas Bereavement Fund".
