All sacraments are based on the candidate's readiness; the normal time frame and procedure is based on participation in the Religious Education Program.

For students who attend Catholic schools or the parish Religious Education Program, the customary format for reception of the sacraments is as follows:

Grade 2

  • preparation for and celebration of First Penance
  • preparation for and celebration of First Communion

Grade 8

  • preparation for and celebration of Confirmation

It is the responsibility of each family to contact the Religious Education Office to be sure that their child(ren) is on the list for each of the sacraments. The following criteria is used by the parish/education staff, as well as the candidate's family to determine readiness of each sacramental candidate:

a) Regular attendance at Catholic school or the Religious Education Program
b) A commitment to live out their faith as a Roman Catholic (i.e. regular attendance at Mass)
c) Each candidate must have reached the age of reason (seven years)
e) Knowledge regarding the sacrament appropriate to the candidate's age and circumstances.
